What are you watching?

Can anyone recommend some silly Japanese competition show that I could find on YouTube? You know one of those where competing teams have to do some bizarre crazy shit? Haven’t watched one in a while.

Started Bocchi the Rock! earlier this week. Nice slice of life show about a loner who wants to be more popular, so she learns guitar to make more friends. Maybe it’s because I resonate with the main character, but the show really strikes a chord with me (pun HEAVILY intended).

The humor is pretty good and only made better by the creative animation. They add in some mixed forms of media that make for some very unexpected but effective moments.

I binged the first season of Chainsaw Man in one go. It was so good, the music was amazing! I’m so torn between wanting to read the manga to know what’s going on and wanting to wait until the next season comes out.

I’m also really excited for the second season of Alice in Borderland! I’ll watch it this weekend.

I was in the same boat! Although, I got to like episode 7 before I couldn’t wait and had to read the manga. The story gets SO good.

I watched Cyberpunk Edgerunners after hearing a lot of glowing reviews for it. For me, it was just ok. For an anime, the animation looked sort of simple or rough. I’m not familiar with the studio so it could’ve been a budget related thing, but movements and effects felt somewhat lazily done and like they were missing dynamic impact.

The pacing was fast. A little too much I think to tell the story they wanted. About midway through, it felt like character development got ditched in favor of blazing through the story. I especially disliked how they executed the ending. They were close to making it impactful, but it felt both so abrupt and loud that when the credits rolled it was jarring.

Voice acting was pretty solid. I started with the sub, but ended up with dub as I heard it was more authentic with correct use of slang and even dialects. And I agree with this. The Japanese is acted better I think, but there’s a lot of personality and character in the English performances.

Wish I watched something else instead, but didn’t hate it.

Gundam Witch from Mercury!! I was already getting back into the fun hobby that are gundam model kits, so when this show came out it just made me get into the series all over again

Binged Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre in one go.

I really like his work, so the stories were good, and I recognized a lot of the voice actors.
After getting used to the stuff that Mappa has been churning out, I felt the animation wasn’t as good as it maybe could’ve been. But that’s not really something I can blame on the studio, the problem is my expectations. And the quality was still good, it was a watchable experience.
It was nice that they didn’t try to force all of the stories to be full length episodes and instead made a bunch of 10-or-so-minute short stories and combined 2 to make a full episode.

‘‘Welcome to the Suck’’

‘‘The earth is bleeding…’’

Watching ONE PIECE from the start minus filler because I’m insane. I usually skip to the Marineford arc when I watch it as I already read a lot as a kid and watched it on Toonami. Gonna skip filler and then once I hit the time jump watch the first 11 movies and continue. I think where I left off when I stopped before was when Mihawk fought Kizaru.

Started Enies Lobby today.

I’ve been devouring Friends for some reason. Pretty good show. I still think Seinfeld is better if I have to pick one.

I hate sitcoms and don’t watch them and don’t allow them in my house. :no_entry_sign:

Remembered how much I hate everything later besides Marineford so onto Wano tomorrow.

Bocchi the Rock! sound fun, I might actually check an anime for once, though it’s been several years since I’ve watched a new series to completion.

South Park has made headlines again recently, and I’ve been binging some episodes out of boredom, lol.

WATCH IT

It’s a lot of fun. They do some creative stuff with the animation including tons of mixed media. And, there’s tons of easter eggs referring to other shows and real life things. It’s a good watch.

Came back from watching Suzume in theaters. First movie I watched in theaters since 2020. And what a wonderful film. The animation is stunning, the characters all memorable and full of personality, and the story, while predictable, threw some unexpected curveballs and easter eggs.

I loved how the theme of sentimentalism and nostalgia was weaved into the interactions between people and the plot. And the movie wasn’t shy about exploring both sides of those feelings: the happy moments as well as the painful ones. I admit, I shed 2 tears as the story hit its climax.

I was already quite familiar with the soundtrack as I had already listened to it a handful of times. It’s a great stand alone soundtrack but it’s truly enhanced by the amazing visuals and animation. And vice versa. The two are complimentary in a way you might pair Joe Hisaishi’s music with a Studio Ghibli production. You just can’t imagine it any other way.

Suffice to say, I really enjoyed it. And I highly recommend it. I watched it in IMAX and it was worth splurging for it 100%.

Starting season 2 of Vikings Valhalla.

Finished.

Started watching Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai (Twittering Birds Never Fly). It’s the first yaoi I’ve watched in a long time, and it’s alright I guess. Very surprised to see that they’re addressing CSA, it’s the first time that topic’s ever popped up in a yaoi, for me at least.

I just wish that yaoi anime wasn’t so soft on the sex scenes, like with hentai that’s got dicks and ass everywhere :sob::sob:…maybe I need to read the manga instead.
