Where in The World is Yoshiki?

He’ll find a way to monetize his own death, and estate proceedings.

During last night’s show, YOSHIKI sustained an injury due to forceful contact with his right hand (grabbing or pulling) by an audience member. YOSHIKI is currently receiving treatment, but with permission from the doctor, today’s show will continue as scheduled.

These 10 shows, is YOSHIKI’s first return to the stage after having his 3rd neck surgery. As such, if you happen to have the opportunity to come into contact with YOSHIKI, please refrain from grabbing or forcefully pulling on his hand in order for YOSHIKI to be able to fully perform the remaining 7 shows. We sincerely ask for your understanding and cooperation on this matter. Thank you.

Neck injuries are no joke though. Even the slightest unrelated action could pull or tug on something in his neck by accident.

This is an exact repeat of an episode that happened a few years ago. In this situation, exceptionally, I’m siding with Yoshiki, even if it might be exaggerated for dramatic effect… he’s been having neuropathy in this arms ever since the 90s due to his spine / cervical problems. Fans attending his show should know better.

I ask the question again.

How relevant is actually Yoshiki today? Like seriously. I know many people see him as a clown but lets be serious for once - how relevant is he?

relevant enough to be the subject of a human interest fluff piece on the news, apparently.

unless you’re suggesting he went to the news and begged them to put him on

iirc the ponponpon jpop girl had consistently fawned over him before going on hiatus/getting married and babbying up + how many kpop bands had him produce stuff over past few years? I think of at least two, but I don’t remember anything about them

also, it’s not entirely his solo project, but last rockstars had a tekken 8 OST song, so that’s pretty relevant, more relevant than a vogue cover I guess

As a celebrity, still vaguely relevant as he remains recognizable by most generations.

X may quickly be recessing into history, but in terms of cultural influence their impact was really SO massive at the time that Yoshiki still gets to ride the shockwave even now, at 60+.

Then, he remains very well connected in media / music / business circles (e.g. he’s notoriously mates with the bosses of Rakuten, Salesforce etc.), hence why he enjoys preferential access to big media outlets (including NHK), which makes him look bigger than he actually his.

Now in terms of actual coolness or influence on music, I’d wager the picture is different and he is barely relevant, if at all.

To be fair, he does sometimes do that with Western media…

But I would say in Japan, he doesn’t have to ask for news to cover whatever he’s doing. Now, does he do some things knowing that it’ll put him back in the news? Probably

I’m not sure about the rest of Asia, but I understand that he’s more influential than most Japanese stars outside of Japan. More than Gackt or even Hyde, I would say.

Tha’s probably because of Miyavi being tied to Bandai Namco’s music label not because of Yoshiki.
