Very fair.
The other thing is the whole generational aspect.
As much as us 90s kids care about AI wasting water, the next generation will probably care less, and will also find a way to optimise energy consumption.
Our grandparents would never use Youtube to MP3 to download songs they couldn’t/wouldn’t buy. But some of us did.
In 10 or less years, you can shake your fist at the heavens and curse the day the government let people use AI for their own personal purposes.
Or you can get in your self-driving autonomous car and let it drive you to a live concert, or your friend’s house, or a family dinner. (ie. things that matter that AI will never replace)
That’s my humble opinion.
The world is changing, whether we want it to or not.
And if the world is truly run by oligarchy, profit and money, you can give up all hope and be a nihilist;
Or you can read Viktor Frankl’s “Man’s search for meaning”, and determine your own purpose in life (regardless of AI).
in my humble opinion.
But again, I’m happy to be wrong. This is all just one perspective. It’s not right or wrong.
@MidJag
of course there is a lot of worse shit in the world BUT THE RULES OF THIS SERVER ARE TO NOT TALK ABOUT POLITICS
AI is one of the things we still can talk about because it actively corelates with the current music scene. I could also talk about a lot of other “real problems” but this forum actively does not let me, so please stop with your claims that we are uncaring people in this case we are simply tied into the rules of this forum we all have to comply to.
I think that the guy above is spreading rhetoric that doesn’t align with some of this place’s core values.

I’m a shitty creative, but a creative nonetheless, and seeing some artists i love using AI ain’t fun; but seeing Kizu backtrack on their use of AI in promotional materials is a good start to build the bridge on how it’s viewed as a post production element, rather than a creative one.
agreeing w/ Zephyr (i think this is what you’re saying, don’t want to misrepresent!) that i can’t hate someone for trying out new tech, thinking “wait this isn’t how i want to go forward” and moving on
An artist testing out 1 or 5 or whatever AI products and then getting back to work with hired creatives doesn’t come off to me exactly the same as - well in honor of the board’s rules i’ll stay simple lol and say the same as some other uses of genAI!
I feel you - thinking exactly the same thing.
It gives “old man who is consumed by his memory of his glorious youth”-vibes.
I don’t think he is old though. But obviously, he is not as young as he seems to want to be anymore. It’s such a shame.
Reminds me of the american movie cliche where balding men with huge beer bellies talk about their time as the most popular football player in high school all the time.
I have returned… to say I was wrong. There really is no place for anything AI in the creation of art.
I saw this comment in a facebook group on a post someone shared of an AI generated lyric video and I really appreciate what the dude said:
Mate, it’s AI for one and you’re coopting sounds from struggling bands in very niche genres. Literally most bands in that genre has arrived maximum 10k monthly and struggle to even afford a bus minibus tour, you should be promoting bands in that genre and going to gigs which are fucking cheap also most bands in that genre have free downloads so it circumvents the reason for AIing the shit. I don’t want to help you just for you to use the self-same terms to create more pointless songs when these bands are usually very political
I got this on my feed today, correct me if i’m wrong but he is the first bandmen i see openly talking about no wanting AI in their creative process/ making music or art
it won’t, literally everyone in Vkei right now uses AI. AI is super popular in Japan and there is zero talk of all the negative stuff that makes it hated in the West and Japanese people wouldn’t care about it so expect to see it more and more moving forward for sure.
You are not wrong. You were shamed for bringing up a valid points, even if others did not agree.
Independent artists admit to using AI for videos because being a musician is incredibly expensive and it reduces the costs for them. That in no way implies they hate artists. Most people struggle to get by as it is, and creative endevours are (for most people) a large investment with little return. One of my friends is in a punk band in Osaka and she said most of the people in bands to begin with are those who can afford it. There is a big financial barrier.
When I did a residency at an art gallery, one artist would get a household paint roller, dip it in a couple colours of paint, and go over the canvas a few times and voila! Paintings sold for $1000+ CAD. No joke, some AI prompts would require more time than this. But art has always been controversial and subjective.
In addition, you got called out for bringing up politics, which is ludicrous. I recently got a one week ban in the JRO Discord server for “politics” in a conversation I did not introduce. There is something deeply wrong with this group.
Of course and it is up to you to decide on your direction as an artist. I don’t use AI in my artwork because I want to build up technical skills with things like painting or graphic design. However, I’m also no longer selling my work and do it as a hobby. If I was a musician who had to worry about costs, then that may or may not change the situation.
People argued over the introduction of photography and digital art as well. These were not considered valid fotms of art by some. My son uses AI programs to manipulate sounds but he can also play piano and loves traditional instruments. He is still a child so I think the younger generation will find interesting ways of blending old and new technology.
Problematic members always play the victim when their posts are removed or when they get banned, insulting the staff for how we moderate the community without seeing themselves as the problem.
