They got aliens doing this dance… I can’t even laugh with a clean conscience because of how rapidly this AI trash is spreading.
The face looks like this one specific AI filter that make you look like a drawing. I don’t know the name of the filter/app/whatever it is, but it seems to be really popular in Japan rn.
I just wanted to say this: it looks like they put one of those “painted” AI filters over a real photograph edit
Forgive my Royz apologism but they’ve since album 5 iirc done this thing of proper produced trailers, PVs etc for one track on the album/single, just like every other vkei band, but then super low-effort, quick-turnaround visuals to introduce the other tracks.
Iirc that’s bassist Koudai putting these together himself, but i can’t cite sources or anything so don’t trust me.
But usually these would be like… Adobe stock looking 15-second clips of snow falling or light through tree leaves. Business internal meeting tier visuals but whatever, it’s just meant to be a backing image in video format as the track is introduced.
So ugly, unappealing, and uninteresting as it is, i don’t personally think it’s replacing any more than a $5 stock video clip purchase - certainly not seeming to me like any indication the band will replace core artistic content & commissioned work with gen AI. but who knows.
As long as they don’t sell AI in their DVD’s, CD booklets or even merch, I can kinda ignore it
But even then, I still prefer random stock videos with the lyrics slapped over it in Windows Movie Maker over AI nonsense
Agreed - for me personally this is a band i’ve followed for years & once made a round trip to Japan to see - all in all it lands for me somewhere between “completely ignorable” to “mildly annoying”, but not actively a problem like if gen AI showed up in album art or a PV
at least stock footage was filmed by someone at some point - someone with a job & income like mine!
(i sell stock footage too & depend on that for income, tho to clients direct not aggregators, so i try to be real careful and balanced when i talk about AI in these cases)
Hopefully it just replaces stock footage. I’d hate to see the white female models out of a job. How will they earn money if bandmen don’t hire them to look creepy and/or sensual in their music videos?
It looks like a combination of chibi style and AI. Is that even really official merch?
She looks a little like actress Kristin Kreuk
Its probably cheap, they probably have one guy who sits and does it.
Mana giving the funko pop look
The “AI is state of the art cutting edge technology” is no doubt the fallout of how AI has been marketed to the world over the past few years. It would be silly too look at these softwares and not be at least a little bit awesome struck at what it is capable of spitting out. Even if it’s not good by a number of metrics, it is easy to see why people would be easily drawn in by the concept alone. It was always bound to be a fad if nothing else. People need to go through the growing pains of finding out what it is, discovering it’s limitations, and eventually getting board of it.
I think that’s just what we’re seeing now.
Especially in VK where, correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems that there’s not a massive amount of public outcry against it in Japanese spaces. It exists. It’s cheap. Most bands aren’t rolling in cash. So of course they’re going to try it out and see.
I’m more curious if it will continue to be a trend, and what the actual value in it will be. Especially in areas where people pride themselves on their craft. What pride is there in something that takes away the ability to craft?
