really nailed the Vibe with that cover
The cover arts slay but i’m fucking pissed that they didn’t go oldschool with this one
… unless you count that phase where they tried to be americanized, then ok lol
The covers are very cool and pretty, I wish they went for a more oldschool visual kei look to match the release
Addidas kei is coming back baby
sopranos kei
This fucks SO HARD
Some of the best covers they’ve ever done and best of what I’ve seen in recent memory. Lettering is totally on point too.
What exactly is addidas kei?
it’s what we call the dark ages, the twilight of visual kei’s soul, the sad period when we lost our boy to the tracksuits
foccius already replied, but yeah, see above. This was during their Uroboros tour around 2008 or so
Thanks guys, is it only Kyo or has other bands done addidas kei as well?
Was Kyo sponsored by them?
Are you personally a fan of Addidas Kei? Do you think it will come back?
By the way they did a good work on the covers for the single. Like people have said usually deg single covers are terrible.
Disagree with this. That said, there are definitely some bad ones:
SUSTAIN THE UNTRUTH
WTF. I can see the concept they’re going with (devolution back to apes) but the execution comes across as try-hard and cringey. Also, the pink colour on the regular versions just doesn’t fit at all. I’d be embarrassed showing this art to anyone.
DIFFERENT SENSE
Nameless naked guy in a corridor at home. Lazy as heck and doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the song. The octopus from the video should’ve been featured instead.
激しさと、この胸の中で絡み付いた灼熱の闇
It’s just the band in a warehouse with an OHP projecting something (?) onto them. Meh.
DRAIN AWAY
Someone just found Photoshop. What’s this even supposed to be? I don’t entirely hate it… just feels random.
All the others are varying degrees of decent.
Honourable mention to GLASS SKIN which is quite an uncomfortable image.
Personal favourite is JESSICA. So fun, even in the liner notes!
To keep this on topic, I’ll echo the sentiment that the new single artwork is very good. I especially like the Initial Limited version which isn’t on the other two (RIP deluxe buyers).
Adidas tracksuits and pingy high-pitched snare drums are peak metal no matter the band or place of origin
SUGIZO is keeping Adidas-kei alive, just not on stage. He’s started wearing the track suits a lot this year.
it’s funny how people always got upset about vk bands getting “americanized” or “westernized” when they gained popularity abroad considering they’re basically all just slipknot and korn cover bands
not in vk
he occasionally wears one live, but not like kyo invented the tracksuit look:
the entire stretch of bands that toured europe (one in your icon + unsraw, versailles, D, rentrer en soi in their mindie years) never sunk as low as Deg to get their american breakthrough.
who, in turn, didn’t sink as low as miyavi recording a gospel album, so I guess that’s something - the entire roster combined still outsold by what GLAY or luna sea do without ever leaving asia.
how gazette managed to make it to NYC w/o growing a bunch of ragged goat beards out is really beyond me.
It’s funny when people complain about “Americanized” music when most Japanese music is derivative of American music to begin with.
I mean, Visual Kei is legitimately a knock off of American glam and hair metal, and KISS.
While this is true, this was at the beginning of vk in the 80’s. Vk has evolved since that time and like a lot of stuff that japan took from the west, they kinda made their own very japanense version of it. Trying to re-americanize this, is what annoys people here, I guess.
