Groups or artists that you have an irrational dislike or hatred of?

BabyKingdom

They just seem so overly fake, like if North Korea tried making Visual Kei.

Not a hatred because it’s like whatever, but I get really annoyed when I see Babymetal everywhere. For a while, any time I told someone I liked Japanese rock the response was always “you guys like baby metal?”
To which I had to reply that I don’t really like idol groups. It’s not like I think they’re objectively bad, they just dont have the kind of sound I like at all and it’s hard to explain to people who keep asking me about them.

i see a lot of people expressing their dislike for mejibray and that’s totally understandable based off the confirmed statements that I’ve heard of them, but is it just that or also that their music sucks? cuz I really enjoy all their songs (maybe i just have bad taste)

can you fill me in on how there’s no way they wrote their own songs? Don’t mind if it’s all opinion, just curious :yum:

Their label could have engaged a ghostwriter. Stuff like that happens.

Also dont worry, its fine to like any bands music, that doesnt mean your taste is bad. People have different tastes and different opinions, as long no one gets hurt, thats all perfectly fine.

It’s based on nothing more solid than vibes, i don’t have any proof or info anyone else doesn’t

But look at tzk’s output; there’s consistency in like song structures, instruments used (no saxophones or idk harpsichords popping up in one track but not another), and where his voice lays in the mix

From Vanessa to Mejibray to 8psb/Spell/30s there’s similarities in tracks

Meanwhile, looking at the tracks attributed to MiA, they’re all over the place in a lot of different styles, all the new synths and instruments are well and complicatedly arranged - tzk’s are usually more simple and thin

Then look at what MiA’s done since - his guitars sound similar! In playing style and tones, so that makes me think he’s def playing everything himself, writing his own guitar parts or at least adapting everything to his style. But i’ve not heard new MiA tracks that sound anything compositionally like Mejibray.

Also, literally none of this is “Bad”. Imagine saying you didn’t care for (idk many movies) Fight Club bc Brad Pitt didn’t write it himself - omg, a separate writer whose whole job is writing wrote the movie, it must mean nothing to the actors
that’d be crazy to say, right? So i always wonder why ghostwriting in music is talked about like that

I don’t think many bands, certainly not one as iconic and original as Mejibray just got handed sheet music and told “go” lol
I’d imagine there’s quite a lot of every instrumentalist adapting their own parts to how they play, and having a lot of say in what kinds of tracks they might be looking to have commissioned or a few favourite writers who understood the bands’ style best. And all any of that means, if true, is that the good art of music we know as “Mejibray” involved the work of more than just four people

I just wish ghostwriting was a more accepted practice and we could drop the “ghost” and be honest about who’s done what work

Also don’t put me in the dislike camp lol, i adore Meji & would put them in maybe my top 15 bands i ever heard; i got to go see them in Nagoya & planned half a Japan trip around being in the right place to see that show

I just think i can like a band & also guess they collaborate often w/ writers outside the band!

And if doing so could help more bands reach anywhere near the quality of Mejibray i think they should~
at least consider it lol

Alice Nine, they never made a good song and if the composition was good, it was destroyed by Shou’s terrible voice.
Recently - Deviloof, they are just getting worse and worse with every release.

not a big a9 fan (far from it), but I think they have dozens and dozens of dope songs that are catchy and memorable.

but then I listened to shou singing live and oh my god lol, even 90s no1curr vkei vocalists are more tolerable to listen
