I think wrt fetish content it’s not the intent and audience that matters more than the content. I can’t fault him for making art that’s so obviously that, even tho i don’t share his interest in the slightest and find it upsettingly uncanny in the way i imagine it always might when looking at a fetish you don’t share. For this reason i don’t like seeing pictures of him, personally, and had no interest to rewatch PVs like Dendrobium where he’s got it on, tho i enjoyed all the others of Dadaroma.
Drugs is so clearly a fetish band and if they treated it as 18+ maybe i would have zero problem. Wataru Shindo has his whole ass out in every photo and does the rope stuff too. I’m into none of that from guys, yet as an adult with nothing to gain or lose by interacting with them, i can make the choice to consume art with elements i don’t aesthetically enjoy and look past them.
So the issue is in crossing THAT barrier. By making any part of this band’s interaction accessible to minors is a problem bc minors don’t know they’re exposed to and asked to produce fetish content for an adult. I have to interject and say i personally have no knowledge of him asking for that from minors, so i’m neither trying to accuse nor exonerate here; like everybody says all this is about much more than simply Yoshiatsu.
I think a band with art like Drug’s isn’t compatible with vkei behaviour, and proceeding as such opens channels to irresponsible harms. Note that i don’t have to say Yoshiatsu is evil, malicious, actively seeking harms etc to say this is how this band can cause some. The opening of this avenue at all is the problem, i think this is true no matter how many harmful acts came from it.
In another universe maybe he did his clown band, restricted it to 18+, explicitly informed potential viewers this was pornographic for his enjoyment, and never made any sort of interaction with anyone who might not fully consent in clear and mature state of mind, as peers, without the power imbalance of young fan and artist. Wow, that’s a lot of caveats.
But i write this to say my thoughts are it’s not the content that stresses me out, bc concentrating on that might facilitate the same abuse of power with content flying under radars, but rather the behaviors and structures an artist and their management can choose to build and what that leaves doors open to.
Please note i’m STILL not commenting on a single thing other than what the band publishes themselves and how they publish it. We’re all talking about it ofc bc of the posts but i don’t even know where to begin thinking what to make of those. Happy to see management is taking it seriously and shutting everyone up while they open submissions for investigation.
