While not directly visual kei, since the band Doom started around 1986, fretless bassist Kou Morota committed suicide on 1999年5月7日. Japanese text about his passing usually refers to it as an unforeseen accident when he drowned in a river.
He had suffered from massive depression after having left Doom in 1993 and was most likely suffering from bipolar disorder. He wrote a song for the last Doom album he was on in 1992 called ‘水葬’ which means ‘Burial at sea’.

I would guess that most visual kei musicians know about Doom and the insane bass playing of Kou Morota. Doom appeared on a compilation in 1987 called ‘Skull Thrash Zone’ which also had songs by X when they were just a 4 piece right before hide joined the band, so any X fan probably heard Doom in a round-about way if they had that comp. Also, Yoshiki briefly played with Doom for 2-3 shows to help out since X was going through member changes that year.
Doom’s singer / guitarist Takashi Fujita went on to be a touring musician for Soft Ballet in the early 90’s and eventually became J’s main guitarist for 10-15 years before restarting Doom.

I believe Fumiya’s family confirmed a year after his death that he committed suicide. He was one of my favourite drummers in the scene and I loved MIZTAVLA
