Absolutely, the idols themselves are the first victims if anything lol. I have a friend who is a huge fan of Taemin and she managed to convince me there are enough artistic parallels between him and Kamijo that I am now actually getting ready to take part in the bloodbath next Wednesday when his European tour tickets go on sale

I do have to admit I also made a brief detour into kpop around 2012. I was drawn to the high quality visuals and great vocals, which are two of my favorite things about visual kei so it makes sense. My fave groups were DBSK/TXVQ and VIXX which had great dramatic/fantasy concepts. I’ve always been a person who listens to all kinds of music genres as long as the music is good.
I think in the end I stopped following kpop because my favorite groups were less active, and I missed the imperfect emotional expression that comes from independent artists in a smaller scene.
Also clowns. VK has way more clowns.

i was into both! i did do more kpop (most of my fave vkei groups either disbanded or the vocalist got arrested lmfao). i stopped in 2017 when jonghyun died as he was my biggest musical inspiration, then came back to vkei secretly bc the person i was dating at the time was a jealous weirdo who was convinced i was gonna leave him for hitsugi somhow??? 
genuinely, i missed the community of vkei that kpop doesnt have. i miss being able to critique something without getting doxxed. like if i come here and say “this album sucks”, i get actual insights as to why it does or doesn’t. there’s other viewpoints that aren’t just bait.
i missed the drama and clownery of vkei as well. like, kpop doesn’t have MiA or Gackt like idols. i need their shenanigans to remind me it’s okay to be feral sometimes. i need iT’s ennui posting on twitter, usagi from lyrica’s selfies, and some other jpop (#lovesick, zolpidem) stuff.
also every single one of my kpop biases have gotten arrested or been awful people. to name a few: kris wu, himchan (B.A.P.), hongbin (VIXX - not awful but kinda an asshole), CAP (teen top - not awful, an asshole), the 2 months of liking seungri, and i almost liked taeil from NCT so i figured, why not come back to an always there for me community.
now i still listen to both but mostly 1st-3rd gen kpop w some newer stuff. i feel very get off my lawn sometimes.

I too don’t get why it needs to be One Or The Other. I don’t buy anything now bc lol unemployment but when I was employed I was spending more or less equally with some year-by-year variations maybe.
