I’m relistening to Stacked Rubbish and I’m wondering does anyone know why Ruki’s harsh vocals sound so different on this album compared to any other gazette release? They seem weaker
Possibly just hasnt quite got that style down by that point? Its obviously a pretty early album and stuff that came before it I dont really remember if it had much if any harsh vocals at all. Correct me if im wrong there as really not sure off the top of my head.
I find it kinda funny that Ruki’s screams(?) on DVD Live REPEATED COUNTLESS ERROR sounds kinda strange. Not only on this release, but in this era. Like he inhale with position to classical singing and his vocal cords aren’t controlled enough. I like it and i can mimic it, but this still sounds to me kinda hilarous.
edit: In [DECOMPOSITION BEAUTY]FINAL he uses more of this style of vocal
Heartbreaking, rest in peace
There was harsh vocals in releases before Stacked Rubbish, Particularly in Disorder and works previous to it! The vocals in Carry? were great! I’m assuming he was working towards a different sound with them during the Stacked Rubbish era
Honestly im a bigger fan of their stuff from Dim onwards so older stuff is a little sketchy in my memory. I did listen to Disorder earlier (maybe this thread triggered the inspiration?) And even though i wasnt specifically listening to the vocals the entire time it did stand out to me that at least in places his harsh vocals have a distortion effect on them so pf course that will affect how the vocals sound somewhat. Will revisit the earlier stuff and keep an eye out for this.
Their older stuff is so different from everything NIL and beyond and I, despite maybe being biased due to nostalgia, don’t think they had ever made a bad song on DISORDER or before it, they were amazing in their indies era!
I get a sense they’re going to drop an album on us out of the blue with little to no warning sometime this summer or fall
They did this teaser last year, so I guess they are working in an album right now, and it’s only a matter of time
Yeah would not be out of the blue more like finally dropping it. I am waaaaaiting. They (Ruki) also post pictures from the studio from time time in their insta stories so they are probably working on it.
Riiiiiight. Totally forgot about that! Guess I’m being subconsciously primed for some new gazeto
All this talk about Ruki’s vocals made me realize that he had alot of potential. Like the Chester-style sing-scream (like in Before I Decay) and Kyo-style banshee-scream (like in HEADACHE MAN) maybe he’ll revisited the style in the future.
I feel this way too sometimes, and that’s from someone who got into them during the Toxic years.
These days, I find it really hard to get excited for a Gazette release. The last album I really enjoyed all the way through was Division, but as I’ve gotten older, I find myself mostly listening to stuff from DIM and earlier.
It’s a shame to feel like your tastes and a band’s direction just took different paths. I just don’t feel like much of their new work feels creative as much as it just feels iterative of their Dogma sound.
(I feel like an ass now after learning about Reita’s passing. Fuck)
You didn’t say anything offensive or rude about the band, RIP
Don’t feel like an ass! You only stated your opinion, you’re entitled to it and you didn’t say anything disrespectful!
it’s a thing with this band… I rolled my eyes so many times over the past few years, thinking full well they’re on the track to replace luna sea as the big Asian rock band once those guys finally decide it’s time to retire, and waking up to the news today made me feel a certain way I still can’t quite define yet.
this scene has a certain lasting morbid undertone to it beyond the prosthetic horror makeup and stage antics.
Reita died and we’re not talking about it?!
we’re here
Reita always had some of the coolest grooves to me. It’s been a few hours, but have any band members spoken about this?
