Fyi, it’s “Ito” from Traces Vol.2.

I hate the circumstances, but it’s been nice to talk about the GazettE, and reminisce with you guys on how we all eventually got into them. I heard a bunch of songs today (some good, some REAL bad) for the first time, and I’m glad I did.

I’m gonna be that guy and say the original Ito is superior.

I agree, old Ruki vocal slaps on that song! The vibe is more older VK too rather than the polished perfected sound of the remake!

tysm for the link & timestamp!! i just watched the Dallas bit; how surreal to see the empty room and other angles of a show i was there irl for

Hey, i feel you. Can we meet in the middle and say Heisei Banka version?

I don’t think I’m familiar with that one!

Strongly agree. I don’t listen to anything off the remake album. But I’m also just not a fan of Ruki’s vocals since Dogma.

Those are some words I will fight lol the reason old fans will die on DIM, like myself, is because a VK band for once did and used English well. Way better than any other band was doing in 2009 in this scene. Sure diru did marrow the year before but that was engurish not English lol DIM ages good and bad depending on the song and the sound. I heard Headache man and orge live back when they were doing the dim tours and these songs sounded amazing. Without 13stairs[-]1 we wouldn’t have inside breast. Riki uses the same line about suck my ____. He switched the last word amongst his verses. Same without headache man we wouldn’t have Abhor god. Anything after 2011/2012 sounds way better than their older album is probably because of how much money the band put into sounding amazing because the quality went up after they left pcs. The band was dark, poppy, and has this style that is specifically gazette. I honestly think Mass was a weak album because they pushed for it to be released. It’s not a bad album but I think it needed like two more years in development to be a full album. It felt like half an album.

Also yeah they have better songs now that use English, which is leagues better than how they used English in the past. It just shows how much Ruki improved his English over the years. Before they knew a little bit of English, and now they could probably talk in English if interviewed. Will they speak willingly in English? Probably not.

But I like engurish better. I find that much more charming than usung perfect english. For me “it will always walk together”.

Do people really care that much about english lyrics? For me that does not matter at all.

Agree with you there, I was listening to it the other day and felt bad since it didn’t really hit the way I wanted it to. Felt like it was something with me although there’s still some good songs on there lmao.

I straight giggled out loud because cassis is a classic. However, maybe Ruki wanted to improve the lyrics? I can see both sides. Engurish is fun and iconic, and being able to give lyrics both in English and Japanese and blend the two languages is an art form. I enjoy both versions of the English because it just shows signs of growth. Trying to blend two languages on top of being giving good verses is not easy.

I honestly think Ninth and Mass should’ve been one album. These two albums sounds very similar where I think you could listen to them back to back or reorder the songs to fix the two albums together. However, Ninth feels more complete to me than Mass. Both albums feel like companions in terms of Ninth being the A side and Mass being the B side. Since Mass has this subdue tone to it. It has heavy songs but there’s more calm undertones overall. Like from Nox to Moment (minus Hold) are all very calm songs. Calm in comparison to the screamo deep growl choruses on other songs haha.

I also prefer their engurish because it feels more like them. Unless they’re doing a OG english cover song like “faint” from Crossfaith then proper english wld be more appropriate.

I always loved this song and think its super catchy, engrish or not I dont care - and Reita really holds it all together with his amazing bassline.

Anyone realized Ruki danced more than other of their lives showing lots of hand gestures in the mass final live?

He did seem happy to be there! Also the new version of “Go To Hell” slaps!

Anyone who’s watched, does anyone think Ruki’s voice sounds slightly different? I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s more noticeable when they play older material, maybe it’s now more vocally demanding for him to do songs from the early 2000’s, particularly towards the end of the show?

I didn’t watch yet but from what I’ve read in an interview, I think it might not be more demanding but maybe just different? It’s a guess of course and if it doesn’t sound just different but as if it were like it needs more effort or is more exhausting or something the like then just ignore my thoughts. I can’t get myself to watch already otherwise I’d listen to it first but this can take loooong.
In an interview Ruki said that vocal training led to progress, for example the interviewer thinking he can’t sing as high notes as in the past and Ruki replied that he can even reach higher notes now than years ago. My thought goes into the direction that the training changed some things that he therefore sings a bit differently compared to the past, especially since you mentioned older songs.

I’m not going to watch the full live for some time, but judging by the teaser his high notes sound cleaner and crisper than they used to do throughout ninth/pre-mass concerts, and he’s likely trying new vocal things for the next album as well

his early high notes (up to NIL) are very out of his natural singing range; later, he deepened his vocal tone for the major albums, and it sounds like he’s trying to get better control over the high notes again and use them more often now.
those should be easier to perform live, particularly as he’s aging, so going higher in the range is probably to help with the touring vocal strain and help his long-term throat health in advance.

(I’m not sure how much studio post-processing there’s going on though, I can’t really spot melodyne and things like that easily.)
