the GazettE

I hope he’s okay.

I love the gazettE, they got me into the VK scene and are honestly one of my biggest favorite musical artists of all time. I personally feel very attached to them, despite not being a fan until after their “glory days”. Not only that, but I feel as if each of their songs are written specifically for me, and I find myself tearing up whenever I listen to their newer albums. I can’t be the only one right?? ^^;

You aren’t. That mostly describes how I feel about them.
It’s not like I’m tearing up always but I can listen to music without always recognizing or without always letting everything about it touch me too deeply. But when that happens it often gets me to tears (for a million of reasons).

yep, it’s a concert; Japanese residents only because of new covid strain concerns.

the drawing is lowkey a slay, after two relatively mellow albums in a row on top of that???

A few years ago I was really hoping to be able to attend this show. I’m still happy that they made it this far, and I’m excited to see the setlist and the eventual recording of it that’s bound to come out. There isn’t a lot of songs they haven’t played in the last 10 years, and I doubt they’re going to dig any deeper into the rarez crate, because all that’s left are songs like BLACK SPANGLE GANG, Red MoteL and machibouke

Reminds me a little of what they were doing during the Ratio ducat, non fortuna -ZOMBIE- show. But tbh this is better.

So, I wanted to know your opinions about this…

I can’t point my finger on since when this happens or if it’s only with certain tracks, but am I the only one who doesn’t gets that excited listening to the recorded versions of some songs? But this doesn’t happens with their old stuff.
For example, I don’t particularly dislike the changes made in Traces, but I don’t feel the same emotion that I feel when I listen to the original version or to a live version. the same happens with MASS (I haven’t listened to the live version though), some tracks on NINTH, DOGMA…

Don’t misunderstand me, is not that I don’t like the songs, is just everything is so… Sharp- that it feels like is just there. There’s a lack of expression. And I only feel it in the recorded version.

Nah I hear ya on that one tbh. Sometimes I think better production doesn’t necessarily lend itself well to some tracks. Like somehow the older recording has more atmosphere about it than a super cleanly done version. Live versions of the heavier tracks are almost always better than the studio versions to be fair. Haha.

100 % agree, most productions nowadays are lifeless. And not only with the Gazette.
Lives show are often better than studio version I think for one main reason ; everyone play together in the same space in the same moment, and this can bring a lot of magic if the band is good.

the Gazette, i dont know how they recorded their first albums but yes they sound more raw and real. More human i’d say

traces is a super dead sounding album, and for the most part it’s due to the fact they recorded and mastered all of it themselves, instead of hiring proper studio crew, to cut costs.

I don’t like a lot of vocal lines Ruki re-did for the covers where english lyrics were replaced, or song timing got redone to match their live takes.
pretty much everything on it feels rushed as hell, and they were no longer 22 when redoing the indie numbers that had drama and hysteria and the entire emotional cocktail of the indie VK. Ruki still typically gets in the mood to chug out something impressive live, but doing so in studio probably was much harder.

In a live setting, the energy from the crowd also feeds the band, often giving a more energetic performance (unless the crowd sucks).

Agreed. NINTH live really changed my perspective on the album and it was precisely this.

The performance of CLEVER MONKEY on that live STUNNED me.

I always prefer listening to recorded versions of songs because of the quality, but there is this trend where everything starts to sound artificial (not just with Gazette) and I must agree with you that I prefer more human sounding music over artificial sounding music.

Albums like Dogma and Ninth don’t sound too artificial to me though so I can just listen to them with pleasure. But to give you an example, Memphis May Fire has released a new EP and for all I know it could all be made by plugins instead of musicians. We need that human factor to enjoy it on a deeper level (not speaking of EDM haha).

When a band starts to make animated video segments it always ends in cringe
