This is a thread specifically for visual kei songs played in TV or movies.
To start us off, in the BL movie Udagawachou de Mattete Yo (Wait For Me At Udagawachou), you can hear Bondage by Grieva
I am not sure if there are enough songs to fill a own thread, so i put your post here. Maybe you can find some VK related TV appearances
Oh wait there’s that ridiculous V-kei DVD Magazine by Maru Music. It was sold at Hot Topic back in the day and I picked up volume 2. The DVD was ass but it introduced a lot of fun bands. Watched it “recently” w a friend again and we were dying because the translations are awful and the audio quality is even worse.
Idk if we could say that’s different media tho. But it was something that released in the US as well and idk if it was actually popular or anything
I forgot VK featured in Hot Topic was a thing. Now I remember that Newgrave, a Goth and Industrial magazine sold at Hot Topic, had some articles about VK bands such as Dir en grey back then:
to add to the posts above, vkei stuff used to be sold at hot topic such as dir en grey tees, cds, etc
I’ve watched all of those! Looooved it back in the day. Didn’t know it was sold outside of Japan. I thought what I saw were fan translations. I remember one specific issue of them talking about bangyas and Danchou from NoGod saying they once performed in the same event as Kaya and her fans were rude as fuck and turned their backs for their entire performance. Weird stuff. I’ve always had the idea that japs in general were super nice, mostly within subculures.
There was also this TV show called Vの流儀, which was really good on all aspects. Too bad it’s over, but there are several clips on Youtube.
Mana, Moi dix Mois, Kaya and some other goths were constantly featured in the mid 2000s in this magazine. I belive it’s from Germany
Kizu will perform the theme song “Ningen×Shikkaku” (No Longer×Human) for the sci-fi anime Collar×Malice, based on a PlayStation Vita game from 2018. The first of 2 films will open in Japan in early summer 2023
There’s a special segment on the band’s OHP for the occasion
my friend and i got drunk and watched these a little while ago. honestly that biju theme not being synced was the FUNNIEST thing
Yep, Orkus is German. I think Zillo and Sonic Seducer (also German Dark Alt music zines) featured VK bands. Also my first contact with VK was via German Anime and Manga zines, like Animania. Most of these still exist, but they no longer care about VK at all.
Also this German TV documentation about “Visus”:
There used to be a few from German TV, sadly most were taken off from YT, but they were hilariously bad.
Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned here yet but I literally gasped when I logged into OW2 and saw this.
Speaking of TV coverage, here are some vids I could find on the brazilian mainstream media covering some gigs that happened in Brazil years ago, including live reports on X JAPAN, AN CAFE, BUCK-TICK and a special MTV and RedeTV did explaining what is Jrock/VK:
I myself wrote some articles for RedeTV back in the day because I was the owner of one of the biggest online communities in Brazl for VK fans back then, but their coverage wasn’t that good and they never gave anyone any credit or money. MTV was more generous, tough. They used to have a special blog for Jrock/VK fans and would constantly broadcast MVs during their schedule.
Btw, it’s nice to see SUGIZO in that interview saying he’s a fan of Tom Jobim, one of Brazil’s most famous/influent musicians ever.
What about your country? Did they ever show any Jrock/VK on the media there? Share what you can find here with us.
Sorry if I sound insane but…
BRUHHHH when we finna get a Visual Kei action drama (Hopefully some gore so, maybe horror? ◖⚆ᴥ⚆◗) film about a yakuza visual kei man fighting off guys from an enemy clan due to “unfinished business” while desperately tryna keep a clean image for his fans. I NEED MY FIX GLOCK LOADING PARKOUR FLEXING STRESSED OUT VKEI MURDABOIIIIII!!!
Omg u watch her too??? ayyyyyy gangggggg
I don’t watch her usually, but her video kept appearing in my recommendations on YouTube l, so i gave it a try.
Omg I never knew I wanted that
Still in the topic of brazilian stuff, Some artists themselves made some of their stuff taped in Brazil later avaliable elsewhere. Most notably MIYAVI’s AZN PRIDE -THIS IZ THE JAPANESE KABUKI ROCK- DVD
and in 2008 Charlotte had TWO whole DVDs from their controversial tour (it’s a long story) taped here Brazil. They’re called "Live Documentary - “Buraban” & “Jiruban” or 〔ブラジル道中膝栗毛〕 ~南米だろー♪南米だろー♪南米だ南米だろー♪~ 【ブラ盤&ジル盤】
Apparently Kaya,LM.C & Gazette also had some of their gigs here taped and broadcasted on TV in Japan, but those were mostly mixed with stuff from the rest of their world tours
Honorable mention to Gram∞Maria, who made a special best-of CD avaliable only during the brazilian tour. Apparently DJ SiSeN & GPK did the same, but this is debatable.
Anyway, BUCK-TICK are getting a limited box with five nail polishes in different colors, which were chosen by the members themselves
This ain’t the 1st time they release this kind of merch, tough, in 2018, as part of the No.0 tour, a set of three pieces designed by Hidehiko Hoshino was also released
Ok, but why are the illustrations of them so aesthetic???
From 2018 to 2020 wyse had some collabs with Tezuka Productions, involving the classic animes Astro Boy, Kimba The White Lion & Princess Knight. In all cases they got featured in illustrations by Tezuka Productions themselves in variants of the single HIKARI. The campaign was officially titled 「wyse20th+OSAMU TEZUKA90th=110万馬力 COLLABORATION TOUR『ヒカリ』」:
They also had an official promotional pic featuring the members of the band with Astro Boy and his dad
The marketing campaign also featured them in a taxi running around Japan called wyse TAXI
Apparently this wasn’t the 1st time they were featured on taxis, as I also found this:
and there was also an official short anime featuring the band dubbing themselves and interacting with Astro Boy, which’s cool af
